Monthly summary

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

One session at the end is what made this month from mediocre to very good.

I was busy most of the month and didn’t quite put the hands I wanted.

I played 4 tables and it gave good results, I am more focused and more read-oriented, still sometimes I make ridiculous plays in situations where I am unsure of where I stand because I don’t want to take the decision that makes it even tougher.

I took a few shots at 100HU, NL400 and PLO up to 200 and I am feeling good about my game.

Next month is going to be tough and I actually hope to sqeeze in as many hours as this month.

My best session up to date

Saturday, May 31st, 2008

Last night, I decided to finally put in a serious session during some normal hours. I was off to a bad start after getting stubborn with my JJ against a KK, but then the session just started going my way.

On every table that I sit there were maniacish players and on many of them I got to sit on their right and they were paing me off. It was a crazy session, one to remember. And I guess it will might take a while before the next time I make 10 buyins in 1000 hands.

Long break

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

Due to many side activities I took a long break from the game.

Today I put in a small session. I seriously don’t understand some of the moves people are making.

I had a sence that this oppoenent is playing loose preflop and making moves postflop. Also the timing of his raise was very suspicious so I put him on FD,77-99,xT, and JJ+.It seemed that I can fold significant part of the behind range and I actually belived he could fold Tx here. I mean, my range here like 90% of the time is TT+.

Both players were playing aggro 23/19 style with a lot of 3betting going on. I am quite unsure how to interpret their play on the flop.

The “tilt me” game

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I feel I will either go busto playing PLO or finally learn not to tilt.

I played 250 hands today, I played 37/24/4, there were 3 super weak players and I succeded not to be ahead against any of them.

Here are the top 5 losing pots:

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2618152 - naked set on str8 board with two flush draws = check/raise

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2618158 - cooler against the same guy

http://www.pokerhand.org/?2618167 - Of course KKxx is good in 5 bet pot

PLO

Friday, May 16th, 2008

The last two months I have been experimenting with very agressive preflop PLO game. I am running like 35/25/2.

I am trying to play exclusively in position. One major strategy consideration is that on the levels up to PLO100 it still is the case that most of the flops are 3,4 or 5 way and in these flops the basic strategy is very simple. I cbet with air when HU or sometimes in 3way, I make small bluffs on flop and sometimes on turn and I almost always have the correct odds to draw to high str8 or flush in multiway as there is always someone who chases something lower.

However, since I miss many of the flops and have to give them up recently I notice that most of the winnings I make them from tilted plays of my opponents. People get frustrated by my constant rasing and reraising and start playing awkward. I am not really sure to what extent will this be transferable to the higher levels. Even though, most probably there I won’t have to play 5 way pots so often …

WTF?

Here there are a few monster hands I don’t want so see agaisnt me, but I never expected to be called by bottom two with no redraw in 5way!!!
